Vikings NFL Draft order: Week 14
By Master Tesfatsion
The Vikings snapped a two game losing streak on Sunday, defeating the Panthers 31-13 at TCF Bank Stadium.
Last week, the Vikings sat with the ninth overall pick. Despite the win, the Vikings still remain with a top 10 pick if the season ended today. Here's how the order looks with record, strength of schedule tiebreaker (if necessary) and upcoming opponent listed in parentheses:
- Oakland (1-11) (vs. San Francisco on Sunday)
- Tampa Bay (2-10) (.458) (at Detroit on Sunday)
- Jacksonville (2-10) (.545) (vs. Houston on Sunday)
- Tennessee (2-10) (.545)* (vs. NY Giants on Sunday)
- NY Jets (2-10) (.583) (at Minnesota on Sunday)
- Washington (3-9) (.479) (vs. St. Louis on Sunday)
- NY Giants (3-9) (.563) (at Tennessee on Sunday)
- Carolina (3-8-1) (at New Orleans on Sunday)
- Minnesota (5-7) (.490) (vs. NY Jets on Sunday)
- Chicago (5-7) (.510) (vs. Dallas on Thursday)
- New Orleans (5-7) (.535) (vs. Carolina on Sunday)
- St. Louis (5-7) (.556) (at Washington on Sunday)
*Note that the Jaguars and Titans have the same record and strength of schedule. The second tiebreaker then is divisional record. The Jaguars are 0-3 in the AFC South, while the Titans are 1-3 in the same division. That gives the Jaguars the third overall pick. For the curious minds, the following tiebreaker would be conference records. If both teams have the same record, strength of schedule percentage, divisional and conference records, they would be separated by a coin toss — a very dull conclusion.
So the Vikings remain with the ninth overall spot at this point and still behind the Panthers. Along with the Vikings, the Saints and Rams both won to move to 5-7 as well so the win didn't hurt too much from a draft order perspective.
Meanwhile, eight of the 12 worst teams will face off this week and give more clarity for some of the prime draft spots. That includes the Vikings, who host the Jets (2-10) on Sunday.
Even with the Vikings win, they were eliminated from the NFC North race over the weekend following the Packers (9-3) victory over the Patriots. Their playoff chances doubled though — from .03 percent to .06 percent — but the Vikings essentially have to win out at this point to even have a shot. The odds are still stacked against them, about a 1.4 percent chance, even with nine wins to snag a wild card spot.
