Fans who attend Vikings games at the Metrodome this season -- or Mall of America Field at the Metrodome if you want to make everyone happy -- should find following other games from around the NFL a bit more enjoyable.
The Vikings, like other teams, will replace the old NFL Films highlights that have been shown in-stadium with a feed from the RedZone Channel, which airs live game look-ins when a team is at or inside the opponent's 20-yard line.
This doesn't mean the RedZone Channel will be available at all times inside the Metrodome but there will be instances when live action from around the league will show up on the stadium's video boards. Don't expect the RedZone Channel to appear while live action is taking place on Mall of America Field.
For noon kickoffs, the Vikings plan is to show the channel at least four times per game and then likely at halftime and possibly even after games depending on the situation. That makes up the majority of Vikings games because at this point six of then will kickoff at noon.
That, of course, could change given the flexible scheduling format the NFL employs later in the season and also the fact that noon kickoffs can be moved to 3:15 p.m. starts
The Vikings' Oct. 17 game against Dallas will start at 3:15 p.m. and in that case the RedZone Channel will be shown before the game. The only regular-season game when the channel won't have any value (at this point) will be for the Dec. 20 (Monday night) meeting against Chicago.
