Vikings day at camp: Wright's catch highlights big day for receivers

The final camp practice was a receiver highlight reel. In 7-on-7 work, Cordarrelle Patterson's one-handed grab against A.J. Jefferson deep down the left sideline invigorated the crowd. Greg Jennings contributed a flurry of eye-catching grabs, including an out-and-up reception from Christian Ponder in 11-on-11 action. But the day's best catch came courtesy of Jarius Wright. While blanketed by Xavier Rhodes, Wright adjusted to a high-arcing pass from Ponder, snatched it in his right hand and kept both feet in bounds along the right sideline. "I was thinking I had to win," Wright said. "I know Xavier is a big, physical corner and was going to try and get his hands on me. But Christian has a lot of trust in me and threw the ball up for me."

Ready for more

Tight end Kyle Rudolph was the latest offensive starter to express his eagerness for Friday's second preseason game in Buffalo. Last week's two-play effort left the Pro Bowl MVP unsatisfied and curious.

Said Rudolph: "This week there's been a lot of emphasis on making sure that we're in game shape, making sure that when it does come to play for real that we're able to sustain our conditioning throughout a 10-, 12-play drive. Obviously last week we didn't get a chance to test that." For the tight ends, Rudolph said, zeroing in on run fits will be an emphasis Friday. "These are the live bullets," he said.

From the podium

It remains iffy as to whether reigning MVP Adrian Peterson will see action in Buffalo, but it's seeming more likely Peterson will get his only preseason participation in the Vikings' third game, Aug. 25 at San Francisco, which will be nationally televised on NBC. Coach Leslie Frazier said he still hadn't decided on Peterson's status for this week. But Frazier did make it clear Peterson won't be held out of action until the Sept. 8 regular-season opener in Detroit. "We want to get him something in these next couple weeks," Frazier said.

Camp chatter

"Your interviews are so boring and dry, dude. Say something funny. Like make everybody chuckle or something. Gosh!"

— Linebacker Erin Henderson, butting into Ponder's morning press gathering with advice.
