The Vikings announced this morning that coach Mike Zimmer and his family are launching the Mike Zimmer Foundation to benefit the local community and honor the life of Zimmer's late wife, Vikki.

According to the foundation's mission statement, the goal for the Mike Zimmer Foundation is "to better lives of children in need."

"With the donations contributed from Mike Zimmer and the sponsors that we team up with, we want to not only promote a healthy, active lifestyle and way of living for children, but we also want to motivate less fortunate children and help them chase their dreams," the statement read.

Zimmer and his family will host a private event Saturday night at the U.S. Bank Stadium preview center to officially launch the foundation.
