The Vikings have added former Browns head coach Pat Shurmur to their coaching staff, a team source confirmed. It is unclear what role Shurmur will hold.
Shurmur had been the offensive coordinator for the Eagles the past three seasons, and he served as their interim coach for the 2015 regular season finale after the Eagles fired head coach Chip Kelly.
Shurmur broke into the NFL as a tight ends and offensive line coach for the Eagles in 1999. He later coached quarterbacks for the Eagles before the Rams employed him as offensive coordinator from 2009 to 2010. He then was the head coach in Cleveland in 2011 and 2012, with the Browns going 9-23.
The Vikings need a running backs coach after Kirby Wilson joined the Browns this week. But Shurmur has never coached the position at the NFL level, so he could be taking on another role.
