Viewfinders event: Best Star Tribune reader photos

January 17, 2017 at 4:42PM

Minnesotans travel the globe, and they've got the photographs to prove it.

From New Zealand and Minnesota's North Shore to Ireland and Madagascar, Star Tribune readers have captured moments of whimsy, mystery and beauty. And they've shared them with us. Each week, we feature a reader travel photo in Viewfinders.

These photos and more of the best from the last few years will be on display beginning Jan. 26 in the Star Tribune lobby, at 650 3rd Av. S. in downtown Minneapolis. Join us at the gallery opening — Jan. 26 from 5-7 p.m. — where you can meet the photographers, order from a cash bar and enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres.

Want to take better shots yourself? Bring examples of your work and get advice from Star Tribune photojournalists.

Finally, I hope these views of places far and near inspire you to explore — and send us your own photos. (E-mail jpeg files to viewfinders@startribune.com.)

Viewfinders: The best of reader travel photography
When: 5-7 p.m., Jan. 26
Where: Star Tribune headquarters — aka #StribHQ — 650 Third Av. S., Minneapolis.
Cost: It's a free event, no ticket required.

The Photographer: Maribeth Lundeen of Stillwater. The scene: The waning sun cast a gentle glow on a Lake Superior island when Lundeed took her camera to Split Rock Lighthouse State Park last August. ìPhotographers often go to this bay to take photos of the lighthouse as it catches the color of the sunset. When I arrived I liked the light on the island and I could see a blanket of low-lying fog moving in to shore. I guess it is not always about the lighthouse,î she wrote in an e-mail. v

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
