After two consecutive record-breaking years at the domestic box office, 2017 was the year the momentum slowed, even with the late adrenaline boost of a new ìStar Warsî film. Living up to the legend

No "Star Wars" movie since 1980 has hypnotized audiences with didn't-see-that-coming plot twists as neatly as "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" (⋆⋆⋆½, PG-13). Kudos to writer/director Rian Johnson, whose layered storytelling is a profusion of Jedi mind tricks, delivering developments like pieces of a puzzle that seem unrelated but join together seamlessly. As Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) tells his scrappy would-be protégé Rey: "This is not going to go the way you think!"
