January 6, 2012 at 1:28AM

The man who died Wednesday in a house fire in St. Paul has been identified as Irvin D. Johnson, 64.

A cause of death has not been released, but Johnson was identified in a police report.

Johnson owned the house on the 1100 block of Dayton Avenue and was its only occupant. He was found dead in the home when firefighters were summoned about 3:20 a.m. The house is a total loss.

Authorities said the fire started in the basement and spread up all three floors of the duplex. City Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard has said the fire did not appear to be suspicious, but the cause has not yet been determined.

Zaccard said it could be a week before they know the official cause of death, which could also help authorities determine the cause of the fire.
