Police have identified the 27-year-old man who was shot and killed outside a St. Paul bar over the weekend.
Adlai Xiong, of Minneapolis, was shot in the head outside the Moonshine Saloon at 1129 E. 7th St early Saturday morning.
Authorities were called to the Dayton's Bluff bar at 1:19 a.m. for a report of an assault. When police arrived, they found three people who had been shot. Xiong was taken to Regions Hospital where he died. The two other victims are recovering from their wounds and have not been identified.
No arrests had been made in the shooting as of Monday morning.
On Friday night into Saturday morning, the bar had a karaoke night and had been packed, kitchen manager Tony Xiong said. Bouncer Sher Vang said a man ran into the bar and told his friends that someone was hurt. When Vang followed them outside, he saw the three victims lying on the sidewalk on the west side of the building.
Xiong visits the bar two to three times a week and has never caused trouble, Vang said. Xiong's friends called 911 and one of them was using his hands to trying to stop bleeding from a bullet wound in the back of the Xiong's head, the bouncer said. The other victims were a woman, who was shot in the arm, and a man, who appeared to be shot in his arm and leg, he said.
There have been around 45 calls for service at the bar in 2013, said Sgt. Paul Paulos, a spokesman for the St. Paul police. Many of the calls have been proactive police visits, Paulos said. On Feb. 23, a 28-year-old St. Paul man died of stab wounds in a fight at the bar. That murder has yet to be solved. In the current shooting and the earlier stabbing police have had some difficulty getting possible witnesses to come forward with information.
"I think it's the times. 'I'm not going to snitch,' " is what people say, Paulos said.
