A driver ran over and killed a man walking along a dark western Wisconsin highway Thursday, then left the scene, authorities said.

Logan L. Paulson, 26, of Almena, Wis., was hit by the vehicle “sometime during the night” along Hwy. 8 near the southern tip of Upper Turtle Lake, said Barron County Capt. Ron Baures.

Paulson’s body was discovered about 7:20 a.m., just as daybreak was taking hold, Baures added.

Baures said authorities know virtually nothing about the vehicle, except that it was white.

Paulson was a full-time card dealer at the St. Croix Casino in Turtle Lake, located about 3 miles west of where his body was found. An executive with the casino said he last worked on Saturday.
