Valley Creek Road project completed

Valley Creek Road, one of the busiest thoroughfares in Woodbury and Washington County, was fully reopened to traffic Saturday after completion of a major construction project that began in July.

The $3.3 million project from Bielenberg Drive to Woodbury Drive had reduced the road's double lanes to two single lanes. The Radio Drive intersection, one of the county's busiest, also was closed briefly at times.

The project involved total reconstruction of the deteriorating roadway, said Jacob Gave of the Washington County Public Works Department, who served as project manager.

From Bielenberg Drive to Interlachen Parkway, the roadway was replaced with concrete, and the rest replaced with asphalt. Damaged sewer pipes were also replaced. The work was financed with county bonds.

Drivers also will see changes at signal lights, which will be switched over to new flashing yellow signals allowing left turns when the right-of-way is clear.
