Valentine's Day wedding specials from Hennepin County judges

February 3, 2013 at 12:11AM

Love will be in the air on the public service level of the Hennepin County Government Center for Valentine's Day.

County judges will provide free weddings from noon to 1 p.m. Couples must register for the event and pay the service charge for processing marriage licenses.

The County Board approved the event last week as a means to honor and acknowledge those dedicated to public safety. Members of the military, including the reserves, National Guard and veterans, will get priority as will first-responders such as police, fire, emergency technicians and deputies. If time and space permit, civilian couples also can be legally wed.

Judges often perform weddings, but most charge for the service.

To register for the event, go to www.mncourts.gov/hennepin. For information on applying for a marriage license, go to www.hennepin.us/servicecenters.

Discounted divorces aren't part of the deal.
