MILWAUKEE — The U.S. Senate has passed a resolution in honor of the upcoming one-year anniversary of a shooting at a Milwaukee-area Sikh (seek') temple.

The resolution was co-sponsored by Wisconsin Sens. Tammy Baldwin and Ron Johnson. It recognizes Monday's anniversary of the day a gunman killed six worshippers at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin. Five others were wounded, including an Oak Creek police officer.

The resolution passed unanimously Wednesday night. It honors the memory of the six victims and offers condolences to their loved ones. It also commends the heroism of the emergency responders and community members who provided support.

Temple members are planning memorial events from Friday through Monday, including religious readings and a 6-kilometer run in honor of the six victims. A candlelight vigil will be held Monday night.
