BOSTON — Runners in the coast-to-coast One Run for Boston relay race have reached their finish line in Copley Square, 24 days after they started.
The end of the cross-country, non-stop relay organized to raise money for those injured and otherwise affected by the Boston Marathon bombings finished at approximately 12:45 a.m. Monday.
The Boston Globe reported that runner Nicole Reis held a baton high as she crossed the Boston Marathon finish line. She was cheered on by her father in a wheelchair. His leg was severely injured by one of the two bomb blasts in April.
Race organizer Kate Treleaven says 1,000 runners crossed the finish line at the end of the final stage of the 3,300-mile journey.
The One Run for Boston called for runners all over the U.S. to sign up for one of more than 300 sections mapped out across 14 states. It started in Los Angeles, Calif.
