A large winter storm will take hold of most of the South and southernmid-Atlantic states over the next two days. Heavy snow is expected to fall fromthe Ozarks to the Atlantic coast.A swath of snow accumulations ranging from 6 to 12 inches will extend fromextreme northeastern Oklahoma eastward to the southern Chesapeake Bay. To thesouth of the heavy snowfall, there will be a narrow, but significant, area offreezing rain and sleet.

This snow is falling in some areas that are not used to handling such largeamounts. As a result, travel will be a mess into Saturday across a largeportion of the South; in addition to snow and ice, heavy rain will causeimpacts as well.
