Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer unveiled his first television ad Sunday, a spot that focuses on his family, cutting taxes and creating jobs.

"Tom Emmer knows that our state faces many challenges in the years ahead and none is more pressing than putting people back to work," campaign manager Cullen Sheehan said in a statement. "Building a business friendly environment, redesigning the way our government works and reforming education are all critically important goals for Tom Emmer. He knows, as Minnesotans know, that what we've been doing isn't working. The same old solutions of the past that other candidates are offering will only give us the same results. It's time for a new direction."

The ad, titled "Work," begins with Emmer, his wife, Jacquie, and their seven children on a porch. The Emmer children take turns talking about how their dad wants to cut taxes, reform government and create jobs.

"We've been blessed," Emmer tells viewers. "Seven beautiful kids living in this amazing state. Minnesota families are struggling. We need to pick ourselves up, create jobs and get our economy moving."

Emmer's team will spend about $300,000 airing the ad statewide starting Monday, Sheehan said. The ad, created by the national outfit DMM Media, will run through early September.

Emmer's campaign unveiled the 30-second ad the same day Independence Party candidate Tom Horner launched his first spot, which will air mostly in the Twin Cities.

The only one not running ads is DFL rival Mark Dayton, who spent millions on ads to win a tough primary.

His campaign wouldn't say when they will launch their next ad.

Here's the script for Emmer's new ad:

Katie: "Hi, we're the Emmers."

Joey: "That's our dad, he's running for governor."

Katie: "And he's really excited about it."

Tripp: "Always talking about cutting taxes and reforming government."

Jack: "And creating jobs for Minnesota."

Bobby: "Believe me, he creates plenty for us."

Tom Emmer: "We've been blessed. Seven beautiful kids living in this amazing state. Minnesota families are struggling. We need to pick ourselves up, create jobs and get our economy moving."

Narrator: "Tom Emmer"

Tom Emmer: "It's time for a new direction."

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
