Update: On Adelman introduction, Beasley, Rubio...

Catching up on a little of this and that Timberwolves-related after the weekend:

* Rick Adelman officially will be introduced as the new coach next Wednesday -- Sept. 28 -- at a 1 p.m. Target Center news conference.

I'm guessing it will be carried live on timberwolves.com, FSN and possibly the team's new radio partner (WCCO 830 AM) but stay tuned for details.

* Thanks to a heads-up from my colleague Michael Lee of the Washington Post, Michael Beasley looked fit and good and injury free in a D.C. charity game on Saturday that also featured John Wall and Kevin Durant, among others.

So that means something must have got lost in the translation with those reports out of China a few weeks back that Beasley might have broken his wrist during a post-game dunk contest while on a barnstorming tour there with Boston's Paul Pierce.

"Something wrong with my wrist?" he told Mr. Lee. "Somebody tell me."

So I guess those reports that Beasley had an asthma attack because of smoke in Chinese arenas was wrong, too. I know at least a couple of you Wolves fans had fun with that on Twitter and elsewhere...

That's what Timberwolves brass has said all along about Ricky Rubio and they are right again now that Spain has defeated France for the EuroBasket title.

Of course, it helps to have Pau and Marc Gasol and Juan Carlos Navarro on your team.

Rubio's impact was minimal in helping Spain retain its European championship and if you're going to judge his NBA readiness just by his stats, well, don't look...

If you're not looking...they were: He averaged 15.5 minutes in 11 games, shot 23 percent (7/30) from the field, 6.7 percent (1/15) from the three-point line and averaged 1.5 points, 2.1 assists, 2.5 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 0.8 turnovers.

He played just seven minutes in the title game against France -- with David Kahn in attedance in Lithuania -- because he got four fouls in just those seven minutes trying to keep up with Tony Parker and because he got hit in the face as well.

And don't forget that FIBA games are only 40 minutes.

He had his best statistical game in the semifinals against Macedonia: 5 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists (and he made his lone 3 pointer of the tournament) in 22 minutes.

Now if you just imagine a 48-minute NBA game, with him on the floor for 34-36 minutes and the ball in his hands most of that time, well....

We'll see, won't we?

Perhaps not anytime soon, but eventually we will see.

As I mentioned in last week's post, he is a recovering alcoholic who also had a kind of obsession-compulsive disorder develop when he was a head coach. He seems to be very up-front about his addiction and past troubles and I hear one of the reasons the Blazers originally hired him in 2005 was to work with Zach Randolph and his issues.

Could there be some intent in helping Michael Beasley blossom despite himself with this hire as well?

* The Wolves also announced on Monday that Target Center will remain Target Center until 2014 after a new three-year extension on the naming rights that Target has paid since the arena first opened in 1990.
