December 7, 2009 at 1:25PM

Rain, snow and wind impacts for the East will begin Tuesday night and Wednesdayas a severe storm tracks across the breadth of the nation during the early andmidweek.A mixed bag of snow, sleet, freezing rain and plain rain will hit the interiorNortheast from New England to New York state and central or northernPennsylvania. Snowy, slushy or even icy roadways will make for poor travel.

Towards the coast, mainly rain, and a soaking rain at that, will fall with thisstorm. Rain could fall heavily enough to trigger urban flooding. It will slowtravel on the roadways while also delaying some flights.

High winds could accompany the rain at the coast and could contribute to somecoastal flooding and beach erosion.

High winds across the Great Lakes, New England and much of the mid-Atlanticwill also be likely following the storm later Wednesday into Thursday. The coldwinds will be a shock to many people, forcing winter hats, jackets and glovesto come back out in places like Philadelphia and New York City. Lake-effectsnow showers will also be triggered across the interior Northeast as the coldwinds cross the Great Lakes.
