Bikes… check. Costumes… check. An appreciation for good beer… check. This Saturday, July 23 make sure you get out of the house and go down to Loring Park to participate in New Belgium Brewing Company's Tour de Fat. This fun-filled event combines a parade, music, costumes, bicycling, and beer into one event with a single goal. That goal is to promote bicycling; one of the greenest, most efficient modes of transportation around. Bicycling is no strange topic to Minnesotan's as Minneapolis was named the #1 bike friendly city for 2011 by Bicycling magazine. This is a huge feat considering that they beat out cities like Portland and Boulder which are notorious for their love of bikes. There will be a bike giveaway to one lucky person who is willing swap horsepower for pedal power. In other words you will need to trade your car in exchange for an awesome bike. Beer will be available for purchase and proceeds will go to the Midtown Greenway Coalition, the group that built our wonderful Midtown Greenway. This event is kid friendly, however, dogs are not allowed. It starts early in the morning on Saturday and you will want to arrive via bike to adhere to the motor free theme. Check out the schedule below, taken from the Tour de Fat Facebook page: 9:45–10:00 (Street) Bike Parade Launch with the Rhymanese Twins

This event is sure to be a hit so make sure to get there early and most importantly have a good time. Cheers!
