The storm currently pressing into the Deep South will evolve into a substantialsnowstorm across northwestern North Carolina and the mid-Atlantic Friday intoSaturday. Treacherous travel will result, likely leading to the cancellationsof activities and forcing holiday shoppers to delay their plans.The snow will overspread the southern Appalachian Mountains and lowerelevations of northwestern North Carolina Friday. The Winston-Salem area lieswithin this zone. Parents should prepare for the possibility that officialsclose schools early.

A bit of snow and sleet will also develop in Greenville, S.C., Charlotte andRaleigh Friday. The wintry mix will persist into Saturday, leading to slickroadways.

The snow will encompass more of the mid-Atlantic Friday night into Saturday.

This includes Beckley, W. Va.; Roanoke, Va.; Richmond, Va.; Dover, Del.; andWashington, D.C. Generally lighter snow will graze places north of theMason-Dixon Line.

Later in the weekend, the exact track of the storm is not quite as clear. Thestorm may bypass Philadelphia, New York City and Boston by pressing directlyout to sea. Some snow would graze these cities if the storm turnsnortheastward.
