Up To A Foot of Snow in Store for New England

A storm spreading locally heavy rain into the Northeast will meet colder airand allow for a treacherous wintry mix and snow to fall over portions of theregion. Most of the accumulating snow will fall overnight into Mondaymorning.The heaviest snow will thump over a small swathe from the Berkshire Mountainsin northwestern Connecticut to southern New Hampshire and southeastern Maine.

Six to twelve inches will fall in this corridor. Portland and Portsmouth areamong the cities and towns that will be digging out from this much snow.

Lesser snowfall will reach southward into greater Boston through Springfield,Mass., and westward to the borders region of northern Pennsylvania and westernNew York state.

More mixing will keep amounts down across areas from the central Appalachiansin West Virginia and central and northern Pennsylvania.

Motorists headed northward out of the big Eastern cities, especially bound fornorthern New England, will meet with snowcovered, hazardous roads and highwaystonight into Monday.
