Unwanted Arctic Chill

April 8, 2009 at 8:30AM

Unseasonably cold weather will persist through Wednesday across the Midwestand Northeast, and no big warmups are in sight. The cold weather is the productof a large southward displacement of the jet stream.Though certainly unwanted at this stage of the game, cold weather of thiscaliber in early April is a common occurrence. In general daytime temperatureshave been running 15 to 20 degrees below normal from the Midwest into the East.

The snow showers occurring from the Great Lakes to the spine of theAppalachians are not terribly unusual either. As a matter of fact, bigsnowstorms have been know to occur this time of year.
