A large pocket of chilly air in the upper levels of the atmosphere will sitover the Southwestern states Saturday, leading to scattered afternoonthunderstorms and well below-normal temperatures.Most of the thunderstorms will form from northern Arizona through southernNevada and Utah during the afternoon. The thunderstorms will produce localizeddownpours, especially in the mountains, and numerous cloud-to-ground lightningstrikes. In addition to the rain, there could be some small hail.
Cool air will continue to sweep through California on gusty northwest windsduring the day.
A significant warming trend will take hold Sunday and Monday as the pocket ofchilly air retreats northeastward.
