A softball hit a sprinkler head in the University of St. Thomas' fieldhouse, triggering a flood on the university's north campus Monday night.

The university's news service said that shortly before 7:30 p.m., a fire sprinkler head in the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex field house was hit by a softball, causing water to be discharged from the fire suppression system. In coordination with the St. Paul Fire Department, the university shut down the water and started the cleanup process.

In a separate incident, about an hour later, power was interrupted when a groundwater pump system failed in the O'Shaughnessy Educational Center main electrical vault. Crews restored power later in the evening.
