The University of Minnesota Thursday named Garry W. Jenkins its next dean of the U Law School. He begins July 31, pending approval by the Board of Regents in June.

Jenkins comes to the U from Ohio State University where he was associate dean for academic affairs at the Moritz College of Law.

"Garry brings to the Law School extensive experience as a scholar of law and philanthropy, administrator at a public law school, and a foundation executive," U provost Karen Hanson said in a prepared statement.

Before joining the Ohio State faculty in 2004, Jenkins was chief operating officer and general counsel of the Goldman Sachs Foundation.

He replaces David Wippman, who is stepping down as dean to become president of Hamilton College in New York.
