An underground fire near 210 2nd St. N. sent smoke pouring onto the downtown Minneapolis street and required the evacuation of people nearby, according to a spokesperson for Xcel Energy.

Patti Nystuen said the fire was likely caused by overheated electrical cables or equipment, but the cause remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported. Some power was lost to a handful of locations near the area of the fire, she said.

A spokesperson for the Minneapolis Fire Department was not immediately available.
