U2 had 2009's biggest music paycheck

Billboard magazine followed the money and determined that U2 hauled in $108,601,283 in 2009. Not bad considering that the quartet's "No Line on the Horizon" sold only about 1 million copies in the States and dropped out of the Billboard album chart in November. Of course, Taylor Swift, who sold more new albums than anyone in 2009, didn't even make the Top 20 moneymakers, according to Billboard. The music biz bible calculated concert grosses, sales of physical and digital albums and songs, mechanical royalties (from radio and other sources) and merchandise sales to compile its list.. Bruce Springsteen, who was ubiquitous (from the Super Bowl to Kennedy Center Honors) in 2009, ranked second with more than $57.6 million. Madonna shook her moneymaker to the tune of $47.2 million while AC/DC picked up $43.6 million. Pink's career year with $36.3 million ranked her 6^th, right behind Britney Spears ($38.8 million) and the Jonas Brothers cashed in for $33.5 million. Coldplay, Kenny Chesney and Metallica rounded out the Top 10. The late Michael Jackson finished 20th with $17.3 million while Swift ranked No. 21 with $17.2 and Bob Dylan pocketed $9.6 million for 38th place.
