The Gophers wrestling team, coming off a second-place finish last week in the 31-team Southern Scuffle, will meet Iowa State at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sports Pavilion in a matchup of national powers.

Minnesota is rated No. 5 by InterMat in the most recent rankings, Iowa State No. 2. The Cyclones were the runners-up in the huge Midlands tournament last weekend and are 2-1 in dual meets. Their loss was to No. 1 Iowa, 18-16.

Gophers seniors Jayson Ness and Dustin Schlatter won individual titles at the Southern Scuffle at 133 and 165 pounds. Ness is 16-0 with 13 pins; Schlatter is 7-1.

The Cyclones are led by Midlands champion Jake Varner, the nation's No. 1 wrestler at 197 pounds. He is one of five Cyclones rated in the top five; the Gophers have three.

The Gophers played with more urgency, but it wasn’t enough to keep them from another conference sweep, and they lost LJ Mooney to injury in the process.
