U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., will be the keynote speaker at the DFL Party's annual Humphrey Day dinner, the party announced.

Recent Humphrey Day dinner speakers include U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Missouri, Democratic consultant Paul Begala, and U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa.

Here are more details about this year's event from the State Party Chair Brian Melendez:

"The Minnesota DFL Party is honored to welcome Chair Barney Frank as the keynote speaker for the 33rd Annual Hubert H. Humphrey Day Dinner.

"Through almost three decades in Congress, Chair Frank has been an outspoken and fearless advocate for Democratic principles. He has been an energetic advocate for civil rights, and was the second openly gay member of Congress. On the House Financial Services Committee, which he now chairs, he has championed consumer protection and reform of Wall Street. He has worked to provide affordable rental housing for his constituents, and been a strong supporter of health-insurance reform. We look forward to a lively presentation from a principled and spirited leader."

The 33rd annual Hubert H. Humphrey Day will be celebrated on Saturday 8 May at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The event will begin with the Chair's reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at www.dfl.org/hhh.
