U.S. beats France 4-2 in Men's World Championship

The U.S. team is now 4-1 with one game left in preliminary round.

The U.S. beat France 4-2 on Saturday in the IIHF Men's World Championship in Helsinki.

Paul Stasny of the Colorado Avalanche and David Moss of the Phoenix Coyotes scored goals in the third period to give the Americans a 4-1 lead.

The U.S. team led 2-0 after the opening period, 2-1 after the second. The Americans outshot France, coming off a 2-1 upset of Russia, 12-3, 13-7 and 11-7 by period, 36-17 for the game.

Three Minneotans on the U.S. team had one assist. They were forward Drew LeBlanc and defensemen Justin Faulk and Jamie McBain.

Stastny now has three goals and five assists for eight points to lead the U.S. to a 4-1 record in the preliminary round with one game left, vs. Germany on Sunday, before the quarterfinals.
