A University of Minnesota associate professor of neuroscience was arrested Friday in connection with offenses pertaining to child exploitation, according to the FBI.

Woody Dale Branton, 62, was arrested at his Prospect Park home without incident. The warrant for his arrest had been issued in Louisiana. Further details were not available late Friday.

Branton has been employed at the university since 1988 and was not scheduled for teaching this semester, said spokesman Chuck Tombarge. The university was reviewing his status in light of the arrest, Tombarge said, although he had not seen the details of the charges.

A records search indicated that Branton has committed only traffic and parking violations in Minnesota.

A university webpage indicates Branton's research involves the role of calcium in transmitting signals in cells and molecules.
