University of Minnesota police search for suspect who assaulted facilities employee on campus

U officials originally identifed the assailant as a 25-year-old Minnetonka man, but later said they are no longer seeking that man "due to an earlier misidentification."

University of Minnesota police are on the lookout for man who allegedly assaulted a U employee near the Mayo Building on the East Bank on Monday night.

The victim — a facilities management staff member — asked the assailant to leave the building before the 71-year-old was assaulted with a bottle at about 11 p.m. and the attacker fled the scene, according to the news release. The victim was taken to a hospital with noncritical injuries.

U officials originally identified the assailant as a 25-year-old Minnetonka man, but later said they are no longer seeking that man "due to an earlier misidentification."

University police and local authorities are investigating the case. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the University of Minnesota Police Department at 612-624-2677 and reference case number UM-18-038258.
