Typhoon Chaba, the latest named storm in the western North Pacific Basin, willthreaten with damaging wind and flooding rain as it sweeps northward andeastward near Japan this week.As of late Tuesday morning, EDT, the center of Typhoon Chaba was located about400 miles south of Naha, Okinawa, Japan. Highest sustained winds were about 85mph. The storm was tracking towards the northwest at 5 mph.

A brush with Okinawa and other Ryukyu Islands by the damaging winds andflooding rain of Chaba will take place on Thursday into Friday, EDT.
