Two victims of fatal Minneapolis van-truck crash identified

The names of two Minneapolis women fatally injured in a van-truck crash Friday afternoon in north Minneapolis were released Sunday.

Maria Vassallo, 40, and Idalia Lopez, 90, died as the result of injuries suffered in the crash at Lowry Avenue N. and N. 2nd Street just after 2:20 p.m. Friday.

According to police, Vasallo was driving west on Lowry when she ran a red light and struck the trailer of a southbound truck. Idalia died at the scene; Vassallo died about an hour and a half later at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. Four children in the car were treated for injuries. The truck driver was not injured.
