Two men were arrested Tuesday in Nebraska in connection with the slaying of 28-year-old Anthony Prowell during a home invasion robbery in the Folwell neighborhood of Minneapolis over the weekend.
The suspects, Kevin Jones, 32, of Omaha, and Antwion Crawford, 29, of Crystal, were being sought Monday on charges of second-degree murder, according to Hennepin County court filings. A witness identified Jones as the gunman.
The two men were arrested and jailed by Omaha police, Minneapolis police said.
Minneapolis police said in a news release Tuesday evening that investigators are working on having both men extradited to Minnesota.
On Sunday, the two men entered Prowell's house in the 3500 block of Emerson Avenue N. and shot him after demanding money and drugs, prosecutors said. Prowell was taken to North Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Shortly before the shooting, an argument had broken out between the men, in which Prowell was dragged through the house and pistol-whipped before being shot, police officials said.
Footage from a neighbor's security camera showed two men getting out of a red Ford sedan and entering the house a short time before gunshots were heard, the complaint said. Minutes later, the same men are seen running from the house toward the car. When they couldn't get the car doors to open, the suspects ran north down Emerson, according to the complaint.
The complaint said that investigators towed and searched the car, which was reported stolen several hours later. Detectives identified Crawford as a suspect through a police report — in which he's accused of assaulting the car's registered owner last year. A Nebraska operator's license found inside the car led investigators to Jones, the complaint said.
