Two St. Cloud State players earn weekly WCHA awards

Drew LeBlanc and Kalle Kossila of SCSU both had big weekends as the Huskies swept Minnesota State Mankato.

Two St. Cloud State forwards have won weekly WCHA awards.

Senior Drew LeBlanc, of Hermantown, Minn., is the offensive player of the week. He had two goals and three assists as the Huskies swept Minnesota State Mankato winning both games by 5-1 scores. LeBlanc had a goal and three assists in the first game. He also had a goal the second game and was a plus-4 for the weekend.

LeBlanc has three goals and seven assists in six games for a share of the WCHA scoring lead with 10 points, the same total teammate Nic Dowd has.

Teammate Kalle Kossila of Kauniainen, Finland, is the rookie of the week. The left wing had two goals and two assists against the Mavericks. He has three goals and four assists for seven points, the most among WCHA rookies.

Gophers freshman Alex Wilcox, who shut out Canisius 1-0 on Sunday was also nominated for this award.

Wisconsin sophomore goalie Joel Rumpel is the defensive player of the week after stopped 64 of 66 shots. He stopped 29 shots as the Badgers won the first game 2-0 and had 35 saves in a 2-2 overtime tie in the second game.

Rumpel has given up two goals or fewer in nine of his last 10 games dating back to last season. He is 1-1-1 this season with a 1.30 goals-against average and .954 save percentage.
