Maple Grove police on Saturday released the names of two people killed Friday in a collision involving a wrong-way driver.

Cheron Swanson, 68, of Dayton, was driving eastbound on County Road 81 when she was hit head-on by a car driven by Michael Kelley, 54, who was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane, police said. Kelley, of Dayton, also was killed.

Alcohol appears to have been a factor, though police released no further information Saturday.

The collision occurred around 4 p.m. Officers at the scene determined that a vehicle traveling westbound on County Road 81 had crossed over into the eastbound lane, resulting in an initial sideswipe. The sideswiped vehicle went on to hit another vehicle. Three people sustained noncritical injuries.

After the first crash, Kelley continued westbound in the eastbound lane, police said, striking Swanson's vehicle. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in either car.
