Two people died in separate car accidents in rural Minnesota over the weekend, according to the State Patrol.

A 27-year-old Meadowlands, Minn., man died Saturday in a 7:30 p.m. accident on Hwy. 53 near Cotton, Minn.

He was a passenger in a car crossing over Hwy. 53, the State Patrol said. The driver, a 20-year-old Cotton, Minn., woman, didn't yield to southbound traffic, and another vehicle hit her car on the passenger side, the patrol said.

She was taken to St. Mary's hospital in Duluth with serious but non-life threatening injuries, the State Patrol said.

Neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a seat belt. Roads were wet and both had alcohol in their systems, authorities said.

Two people in the other car -- a 54-year-old woman and a 74-year-old woman, both of Duluth, were taken to St. Mary's for non-life-threatening injuries. Both were wearing seat belts and no alcohol was detected, authorities said.

In a separate accident, a 23-year-old Thief River Falls man died Sunday in a rollover shortly before 2 a.m. in Red Lake County.

The victim's car ran off the road on a curve on Hwy. 59 near Plummer, Minn. The car rolled and the driver was ejected. No alcohol was detected, authorities said. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The State Patrol hadn't released names of any of the accident victims Sunday evening.
