Two killed in motorcycle crash in Fridley

A man and a woman were killed Monday afternoon when their motorcycle collided with a minivan in Fridley.

The accident happened about 3:10 p.m. at 79th Way NE. and East River Road NE. The motorcycle driver and his passenger were headed north on East River Road when they went through a red light and hit the minivan, which was turning. Neither person on the motorcycle was wearing a helmet, police said.

There were no obvious signs of intoxication or impairment, police said.

The female driver of the minivan and her child were taken to the hospital for observation but did not have life-threatening injuries.

East River Road was closed about three hours while police investigated and cleaned up the accident site.
