Two people were injured by gunfire early Saturday near downtown Minneapolis.

Officers from the First Precinct responded to reports of gunfire around 4:35 a.m. at the intersection of 15th Street and Nicollet Avenue S., according to police spokesman Corey Schmidt.

They found one of the victims, a man, who was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. Another adult victim later arrived at HCMC with a noncritical gunshot wound.

Officers will patrol the area and meet with business owners in the following days to collect more information on the incident.

Anyone with information can send an anonymous text to 847411 (TIP411). Enter MPD, a space, and then the information, Schmidt said. Police have no way of identifying senders of text messages, he stressed. Those with information also can call the department's tip line at 612-692-TIPS (8477) or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
