A man and woman in their 20s are dead following a domestic-related shooting early Tuesday in south Minneapolis, according to police.

Fifth Precinct officers responded a little after 12:30 a.m. Tuesday to the 100 block of E. 59th Street. Inside an apartment they found a deceased man and woman, both in their 20s, and a woman in her 40s with noncritical injuries, Minneapolis police said in a news release.

The two dead in the shooting were brother and sister, Chief Brian O’Hara said in the release.

The injured woman was transported to HCMC for treatment.

Early information indicates there was a domestic dispute that escalated into gunfire, police said. The department said two women were shot before the man turned the gun on himself and died from a self-inflicted wound.

“This appears to be a heartbreaking tragedy that has destroyed a family,” said O’Hara. “While the investigation is ongoing, our hearts are with the surviving family members as we work to understand what occurred.”

Investigators are still working to determine the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
