Two adults slightly hurt when school bus hits car in Mounds View

February 20, 2014 at 6:43AM

A small school bus went through a stop sign and collided with a car Wednesday morning at a Mounds View intersection, leaving two people slightly hurt, authorities said.

The bus for the Mounds View School District had no children aboard when the crash occurred about 6:10 a.m. at Silver Lake Road and County H2, said Fire Chief Nyle Zikmund.

Zikmund and Police Chief Tom Kinney said the bus, operated by a private company, went through a stop sign as it headed south on Silver Lake Road and struck the westbound car on County H2.

The man driving the car suffered "relatively minor injuries" and a bus employee riding along suffered a slight facial injury, Kinney said.

The intersection was closed briefly while Xcel Energy crew members were called to deal with a power pole that was left leaning after being hit by the car.
