Murder charges were filed Thursday against two men in the death of Timothy E. Williams, 25, who was shot Sept. 7 in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Little Canada.

Shawn Maurice Williams, 25, and Andre D. Davis, 27, each were charged in Ramsey County District Court with one count of second-degree murder. The complaint against Williams lists his address as the Steele County Detention Center in Owatonna, Minn. The complaint against Davis said he has no permanent address.

According to the charges: The victim's girlfriend said they had gone to the Axis nightclub in Minneapolis and left about 2:30 a.m. to return to Timothy Williams' apartment in the 400 block of Labore Road in Little Canada. About 25 minutes later, Shawn Williams, whose street name was "Dolla" called and the two talked about a car title.

Soon after that, Williams and Davis showed up at the victim's apartment. Both had been at the nightclub. The girlfriend told police that all three men left the apartment, then she heard "banging noises" and found Timothy Williams lying in the parking lot.

A few days later, investigators talked to Davis' girlfriend, who was in the car with Williams, Davis and another man the night of the shooting. She said Davis owned a large silver revolver and hid it in the sport-utility vehicle they were in that night. The girlfriend said she didn't know whether Davis or Shawn Williams had shot Timothy Williams.

Both Shawn Williams and Davis are being held in the Ramsey County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Authorities said Williams' death was the first homicide in Little Canada in about five years.
