The names of two northern Minnesota teens killed in a broadside crash Wednesday night on an icy highway in Hubbard County have been released.

Jacob R. Bruns, of Laporte, Minn., and his girlfriend, Kiara M. Renollette, of Bemidji, were killed when their car collided with a truck. The young couple was headed south on Hwy. 71 around 6:30 p.m. when Bruns, the driver, lost control of the car and veered into the northbound lane, where they were struck by an oncoming truck.

Both were wearing their seat belts but died at the scene, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The pickup driver, a 53-year-old man from Park Rapids, Minn., was seriously injured and taken to Sanford Health in Bemidji.

Renollette's mother, Jennifer, has set up a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral costs. Renollette was the second oldest of five children and enjoyed dancing and playing music, her mother wrote. As of 8 p.m. Thursday, more than $5,500 had been raised.
