The Yankees make their annual trip to Target Field seeking to make up a four-game deficit on Toronto in the AL East.

NEW YORK UPDATE

The Yankees (83-66), who have clinched their 33rd consecutive winning season, are in second place in the AL East, four games behind Toronto. They are 1½ games ahead of Boston for the first AL wild card. Despite losing Sunday night’s series finale to the Red Sox in Boston, the Yankees have won eight of their past 10 series since Aug. 11. They are 13-3 in their past 16 road games and have a 39-35 road record. They are 16-9 vs. the AL Central this season.

New York leads the majors with 254 home runs and has seven players with at least 20 homers this season. ... OF Aaron Judge hit his 48th home run of the season Sunday. Judge, who has 363 career home runs, leads the AL with a .326 batting average and his fifth in the AL with 102 RBI. ... DH Giancarlo Stanton’s next home run will be the 450th of this career.

IF Jazz Chisholm Jr. is sixth in the AL with 30 stolen bases, making him the first player to steal 30 bases with the Yankees in a season since Jacoby Ellsbury had 39 in 2014. Chisholm has a MLB-leading 20 stolen bases since July 30. ... SS José Caballero leads MLB with 46 stolen bases, although 34 of those came with Tampa Bay, which dealt him to New York on July 31.

Gil, who was signed by the Twins as a 17-year old in 2015 and traded to the Yankees in 2018 for OF Jake Cave, is 1-0 in two appearances against the Twins. Last year’s AL Rookie of the Year missed the first four months of the season because of a right lat strain before being activated Aug. 3.

SS Anthony Volpe (partially torn left labrum) is day-to-day but didn’t play in the Boston series after receiving a cortisone injection. ... Former Twins LHP Brent Headrick (left forearm contusion), who has been sidelined since Aug. 16, has started a rehab assignment. RHP Jonathan Loáisiga (right flexor strain) is out.

TWINS UPDATE

The Twins (65-84) continue their final homestand of the season after losing to Arizona 6-4 on Sunday. The Twins are 1-2 vs. the Yankees and 14-10 against the rest of the AL East this season. In a series Aug. 11-13 at Yankee Stadium, the Twins lost the first two games before winning the series finale 4-1 behind Joe Ryan.

OF Austin Martin is hitting .364 (20-for-55) and has reached base 34 times in his past 18 games. On the season, he is hitting .295.

C Christian Vázquez (left shoulder infection) could start a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Saints this week. C Ryan Jeffers (concussion injured list), RHP David Festa (right shoulder inflammation), RHP Justin Topa (left oblique strain), LHP Anthony Misiewicz (left pectoral strain) and OF Alan Roden (left thumb sprain) are out.

After this series, the Twins play their final home series of 2025 with four games vs. Cleveland. They close out the season at Texas and Philadelphia.
