WHITE SOX UPDATE

The White Sox (49-88) open a seven-game road trip after concluding a 10-game homestand with a 3-2 victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday. The victory ended a five-game losing streak and was only Chicago’s seventh in the past 26 games. The White Sox improved to 16-49 in games decided by one or two runs. The 4-6 homestand began with the White Sox taking two of three from the Twins, their first series victory over the Twins since May 2023. ... RHP Aaron Civale was the scheduled starter for the series opener, but he was claimed on waivers by the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. ... Rookie SS Colson Montgomery hit a solo home run Sunday. In 46 games, he is hitting .224 with 15 homers and 38 RBI. Montgomery joined José Abreu in 2014 and Zeke Bonura in 1934 as the only players in White Sox history with 14 home runs and 37 RBI in their first 45 career games. Montgomery went 5-for-12 with three home runs (one in each game) and eight RBI last weekend vs. the Twins, including a grand slam in Chicago’s 7-3 victory on Aug. 23. He homered in four consecutive games — one shy of the franchise record. ... The White Sox lead the majors with eight catcher pickoffs and are tied for fourth with 16 pitcher pickoffs. ... IF Miguel Vargas (left hand sprain) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday. He is expected to be sidelined two weeks. ... CF Luis Robert Jr. (left hamstring soreness) was placed on the IL on Aug. 27 and could miss the rest of the season. … RHPs Elvis Pequero (right elbow strain), Owen White (right hip impingement), Dan Altavilla (right lat strain) and Miguel Castro (patellar tendon tear in right knee) are out. Altavilla began a rehab assignment on Aug. 22. ... The White Sox follow this series with a three-game series at Detroit that begins Friday.

TWINS UPDATE

The Twins (60-73) close out their season series with the White Sox after winning two of the three from San Diego. Sunday’s 7-2 victory over the Padres ended a losing streak of five consecutive series. ... The Twins lead the season series with the White Sox 5-4. The Twins won two of three from Chicago April 22-24 at Target Field. ... The Twins went 11-17 in August after going 11-13 in July. They are 35-32 at home and 18-23 against AL Central teams. ... The Twins have stolen 12 bases in their past five games and are 16-for-17 on stolen base attempts in their past 10 games. They went 23-for-29 on stolen bases in August and have stolen 78 bases this season, 13 more than they did in all of 2024. ... RHP Pablo López (right teres major strain) made his third rehab start for Class AAA Saints on Sunday, pitching 5⅔ shutout innings at Toledo, and is expected to be activated this week. ... RHP David Festa (right shoulder inflammation) made his first rehab start for the Saints on Thursday. ... C Christian Vázquez (left shoulder infection), LHP Anthony Misiewicz (left pectoral strain) and OF Alan Roden (left thumb sprain) are out. ... On Friday the Twins open a six-game road trip at Kansas City.
