After adding Randy Flores, the Twins weren't done looking for left-handed relief help.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire just announced that the club has traded for All-Star closer Brian Fuentes, who will assume a setup role the rest of the season.

Fuentes, 35, is 4-1 with a 3.52 ERA in 39 games with the Angels. He saved a league-high 48 games with the Halos last season.

The Twins will send a player to be named to the Angels by Oct. 15 to complete the deal. In most cases, teams agree to a list of players from which the Angels can select one to complete the trade.

The Twins will announce a roster move after tonight's game against Seattle to make room for Fuentes, and Fuentes is expected to join the Twins tomorrow.

Check back here for more details. I think the Twins raised the stakes by adding such a proven reliever.

UPDATE: Fuentes will wear No. 51, He usually wears No. 40, but that belongs to pitching coach Rick Anderson.

The Twins designated 7-foot-1 reliever Loek Van Mil for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster. The 25-man move might boil down to righthander Jeff Manship or lefthander Glen Perkins.

UPDATE II: Twins players were very pleased to hear news of the deal:

``I'm shocked," reliever Matt Guerrier said. ``Another arm down there, Some more experience. Closed out for 5-6 years and he's an All-Star. He's a great pickup.

``We made similar moves at this time last year, adding (Jon) Rauch and (Ron) Mahay and this year with (Matt) Capps and Fuentes and (Randy) Flores, which makes us, obviously, very deep."

UPDATE III: Fuentes has a $9 million vesting option for 2011 if he reaches 55 games finished. He's at 33 now and isn't likely to reach it. But he should be a Type A free agent.
