TWINS UPDATE

Catcher Josmil Pinto has two home runs in the past three games, including a two-run homer in Sunday's 4-3 victory over Kansas City. The Twins want his bat in the lineup as much as possible. "I think he's one of our better hitters," Twins assistant GM Rob Antony said. … Joe Mauer on Sunday stole his first base since Aug. 26, 2012, at Texas. That's 153 games between stolen bases. … Hughes is making his 28th appearance and 21st start against the Blue Jays, facing them more than any other opponent. He is 5-6 with a 4.86 ERA against them. … The Twins were 1-5 against Toronto last season, losing all three games at Target Field.

BLUE JAYS UPDATE

Toronto took two of three at Baltimore over the weekend, winning 11-3 Sunday before arriving in the Twin Cities. Toronto is 13th in baseball in runs scored and has a .228 batting average and .300 on-base percentage. … Infielder Maicer Izturis possibly will miss the rest of the season after he tore a left knee ligament Sunday going down the dugout stairs at Camden Yards. Infielder Munenori Kawasaki was summoned from Class AAA Buffalo. … Edwin Encarnacion, who has gotten his licks in on the Twins through the years, drove in his first two runs of the season Sunday. He is a career .356 hitter at Target Field, with six home runs.
