Walker Jenkins, the consensus top-rated prospect in the Twins’ farm system, is moving within one level of the major leagues.
Jenkins, a 20-year-old outfielder, was promoted to the Class AAA St. Paul Saints on Sunday, a source confirmed to the Minnesota Star Tribune.
He hit .309 with seven homers, 11 doubles, 24 RBI and 38 runs in 52 games at Class AA Wichita, adding 11 stolen bases in 14 attempts and a .426 on-base percentage.
He will become the youngest player to play in the Class AAA International League this year when he appears in his first game with the Saints.
Baseball America rated Jenkins as its No. 12 overall prospect, writing in its scouting report: “He has the ingredients to be the Twins’ best hitter in a generation, and if his power develops as expected, he could be a star.”
The No. 5 overall pick in the 2023 MLB amateur draft, the 6-3, 210-pound lefthanded hitter has excelled whenever he is on the field. At Wichita, he performed better each month with an .885 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) in June, a .920 OPS in July and a .973 OPS in August.
He has missed significant time with injuries, including two months during the 2024 season because of a hamstring strain and two months this year because of a high ankle sprain, but he’s a career .303 hitter during his minor league career.
