Draft hits and misses (mostly misses)

From 1976 to 2011, the Twins had 14 top 10 overall selections in the Major League Baseball draft. Some panned out, but most didn't — at least, not in Minnesota.

Jamie Allen, 3B: No. 10 overall, 1976. Didn't sign, ended up playing 86 games with Seattle.

Bryan Oelkers, P: No. 4, 1982. Pitched in 45 MLB games.

Tim Belcher, P: No. 1, 1983. Didn't sign after receiving a low-ball offer, he went on to go 146-140 over 14 seasons.

Jay Bell, SS: No. 8, 1984. Dealt in 1985 to Cleveland as one of four players traded for Bert Blyleven, Bell lasted for 18 major league seasons and was a two-time All-Star.

Derek Parks, C: No. 10, 1986. Played 45 games over three seasons with Twins.

Willie Banks, P: No. 3, 1987. Pitched in nine major league seasons, three with Twins. Went 33-39 with a 4.75 ERA.
